2005 Recipient

The Coaches' Award is the only award that we give to an individual player. Each year the coaches select a young man for reasons that the staff sees as critical to our team.

Each year the varsity coaches bestow an award on a young man who displays the traits of a Biblical man. That is, a man of Commitment, Honor, Responsibility, Initiative, Service and the Truth. We take this award very seriously. Sometimes our winner has played very little, sometimes he's played a lot. But the important prerequisite for this award is Godly character shown with consistency. The 2005 Coaches Award winner is Kellen Hayes. Kellen has led by example in the weight room and has been a constant overachiever on the football field. His teammates named him a captain this year, yet he never led in an overbearing way. In fact, Kellen is the epitome of servanthood. On the field he ran every play we would allow him to run, whether on the scout team or the first team. In fact, there were times that I had to send him off the field so that he wouldn't run every play so that nobody else could run one, and it wasn't out of selfishness. It was out of a desire to get better and a desire to serve the team. It's our honor to present the 2005 Coaches Award to Kellen Hayes, a young man who consistently displays the traits of a Biblical man.
